MILES goes to Cluj-Napoca
Cluj-Napoca-based MILES partner, Asociatia LSDGC Romania, hosted the training of MILES trainers: 23 participants from the 11 partner organisations from 10 EU countries, who met on 22-24 January to prepare for the delivery of the MILES training course for in-service teachers and pre-service teachers.
The participants took turns training each other based on the recently developed curriculum of the MILES course. The training included lectures, discussions, and practical activities, engaging the participants in exploring the key concepts and practising the essential skills related to media and information literacy, as laid down in the five-module course. The hands-on activities not only strengthened the participants' understanding of the course material but also encouraged the exchange of diverse teaching methods and experiences.
Moreover, trainers from the partner organisations provided insights into the latest trends and challenges in media and information literacy education. During the training, participants shared their experiences and reflected on ways to implement the MILES curriculum effectively in their own contexts.
The participants' diverse backgrounds fostered sharing valuable experiences and good practices in media and information literacy from their respective education systems.
This developed materials and training integrate three key aspects to achieve this goal:
- Media and Information Literacy (MIL): Developing the ability to access, critically evaluate, and create media and information across various contexts, fostering creativity, self-expression, and civic engagement.
- Pre-bunking: A proactive approach to countering disinformation by exposing individuals to controlled doses of misinformation to help them recognise and resist it. This technique strengthens critical thinking and emotional resilience, empowering users to reject misinformation in their daily lives.
- Data and information Literacy: Building the ability to read, interpret, and evaluate data and statistics found online. This skill enables users to navigate the digital landscape, articulate information needs, and create meaningful personal search strategies.
